Why do a reverse email lookup? Our modern lives seem to revolve more and more around the online world, where people and their true identity and intentions are hidden from our view. This is true whether we use our computers from home, from work, or on the go with a mobile device. We are not immune from being hurt by liars, tricksters, stalkers, scam artists and spammers whether we use a PC or Mac, a laptop or notebook, or a PDA (such as an iPhone, iTouch, and BlackBerry).
These can spoil the quality of your online experience, can greatly disrupt your life (and that of your loved ones), and even damage it by embarrassing you, ruining your reputation, manipulating you, stealing your money and identity, and otherwise causing trouble and putting you in harm's way.
Do you truly know who is sending you email messages? Did you meet that person in the virtual online world? In a forum or chat room, or as a "friend of a friend", or via an acquaintance or other contact, that was referred to you? Or, did you initiate the contact from the email address found in the cc field of an email you received? This person has an email address and a name that they use online, but who really are they? And, where do they actually live? In the online world, you never really know, unless you investigate.
On the flip side, you also need to be careful because of what others can learn about you online, from either your name or email address. Do you know what "private" information about you is readily available online to others with less than honorable intentions? You should become aware of it, as that information could be exploited and used against you.
